For the first time in the school’s history, Mount Royal University will be hosting a U Sports National Championship.
From March 19 to 21, Mount Royal will play host to 7 other post-secondary institutions from across Canada at Kenyon Court here in Calgary, Alta.
This is not just another event on the Mount Royal campus; this is an opportunity for students to watch the top university men’s volleyball teams from across the nation next door from their classroom. From friends and family to students and local residents, everyone is welcome to be a part of a monumental moment in the school’s history.
U Sports Coming to Calgary
Each year, U Sports schools make a bid to host a National Championship Tournament. A few years ago, Mount Royal made a bid to host Men’s Volleyball in 2027 and Women’s Volleyball in 2028. On October 9, 2024, U Sports announced that the Cougars would host both tournaments.
This would be the first time Mount Royal will get to host a National Championship Tournament since joining U Sports for the 2012-13 season.
The tournament includes 8 total teams based on the following:
- Mount Royal Cougars – Host
- Canada West Champion
- OUA Champion
