During long study sessions it’s easy to feel like you’re putting out more energy and motivation quicker than you can recover. Thankfully, you can regain your mental power by making tweaks to the way you study. Research from the Stanford University School of Medicine tells us classical music can improve the way our brain holds information.

Classical music can improve your study session

With the pressure of finals and graduation, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed by the many roadblocks the universe puts ahead of you. After all, students do spend most of their days with eyes glued to screens; It’s easy to feel insane. Thankfully, research tells us not only does it improve our memory, but classical music has repeatedly been proven to relax our minds and overall mood.

Classical music isn’t really my jam

Music is subjective and everyone’s taste in music varies widely. If classical music just isn’t your thing, your favourite genre can still be of service to you. Personalizing your studying experience is essential to effective studying. Whether it’s hot hip-hop, dark death metal or lilting a lullaby, as we listen to music the left and right hemispheres of our brain are engaged which in turn also sharpens our cognitive skills.

Histories smartest minds listened to classical music

Some of the most influential and smartest people of our time also listened to classical music. Albert Einstein, the physicist who developed the theory of general relativity, was passionate about classical music. Among Einstein’s favourite composers was Mozart, he thought of his music to be some of the purest, reflecting the inner beauty of the universe.

Classical music also played an important role in the life of Stephen Hawking, who famously predicted the death of black holes by evaporation in 1974. Like Einstein, Hawking fancied Mozart and sounds from the Italian composer Puccini.
