Mount Royal University’s LEAP program offers students the opportunity to learn English. Anyone can join the “Language Education for Academic Purposes” at 4 different levels of expertise.
- LEAP 1 is the beginner course
- LEAP 2 and 3 are great for intermediate English
- LEAP 4 is the most advanced course
Each LEAP course runs for 13 weeks and is taught by TESL-certified instructors. Small class sizes are important to ensure LEAP students are getting the education they need.
It is recommended that students have a minimum language level of CLB 4 or an IELTS score of 3.5 before joining the program.

Choosing LEAP also offers the option of staying at MRU residences, as well as the opportunity to register for MRU Open Studies to have an early start in a degree.
LEAP Program Alumni Sebastian Beltran Medina was a registered nurse in Colombia before coming to MRU and joining LEAP. He says the program is “amazing” and he noticed an improvement in his English. Medina graduated the LEAP program in 2022, and now he’s studying for his master’s degree in health service management at the University of Lethbridge.
Medina is one of many international students that the LEAP program helps overcome the language barrier.
Visit the LEAP page for more information about the program.
