Sensitive Content Warning – This blog post discusses themes of sexual assault and domestic violence which may be disturbing for some readers.
Domestic Violence is an umbrella term used to describe abuse or violence within domestic relationships, including romantic and family members. It may come in many forms, including stalking, coercive control or emotional abuse. Sexual assault and domestic violence are also major concerns for college and university campuses, particularly during a period referred to as the “red zone.” This time generally refers to the beginning of the fall semester, from August through November, this is when students, specifically those new to campus, may be at an increased risk of sexual assault or domestic violence.
Although these issues can be difficult to discuss, it is important for students, faculty, and Calgarians to know the proper safety resources and reporting options.
