Many of us have grown up competing, playing, and being active in one form or another. For a lot of people it is just part of their everyday routine. Sports are a huge part of media and everyday life for a lot of people. However with sports a lot of the time there can be backlash for the athletes. Especially in unconventional or sports that aren’t as covered as heavily in the media, due to an unknown aura around these unconventional sports.

Spencer Campbell is a local strongman in Calgary Alberta. Campbell has faced adversity his entire life, always being the underdog in a lot of situations. Despite all of this adversity he has continued to carry on hope through his personal fitness journey by competing in Strongman. Campbell struggles with the criticism he receives from peers, strangers, and Tik Tok comments but doesn’t let it get him down and uses it as fuel he says to continue working on himself. Campbell is very committed to his passion and has drive, despite comments about his weight, height, and age in the strongman community. Campbell has proven critics wrong about his abilities in Strongman by placing 8th out of 16 in his first competition, despite breaking his foot on the first of five events and 5th out of 10 in his second competition. Campbell hopes to continue this success in Strongman and inspire other people who have doubts to just go for it.
