If you have been confused about what fees are part of your tuition, you are not alone. We are going to show you what these types of fees are and what exactly they pay for.
The Students Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) requires a fee for all active memberships in order to provide a service for the students. All student association fees are collected by MRU on behalf of the students with an active membership and are separated into four separate expenses.
Fees to expect
General and operating fees are charged per semester and covers the costs of representing students by:
- Employing staff to support student governing
- Operating SAMRU’s Wyckham House Student Centre
- Operating student programs
The fee is $94.46 for full time students, and $45.16 for part time students.
Capital Campaign fees cover the payments to the Wyckham House Student Centre. This fee is currently capped at $40 for full-time students and $24 for part-time students.
Scholarship fees cover the costs of awards, scholarships, and bursaries to eligible students with an active membership. The fee is $3 for both full-time and part-time students.
Full-time students who are taking at least nine credits per semester are eligible for extended health and dental coverage. It is currently $160.32 per student.
The Reflector, the student-ran newspaper, also collects a fee from students through SAMRU fees as well ($7.25 for full time and $3.63 for part time). These fees are used in order to keep The Reflector editorially free from conflict of interests.
