The Calgary International Film Festival celebrated their 25th festival run.
The Calgary International Film Festival or CIFF has officially drawn to a close, but they continue to screen new releases with their first look series. On October 23rd the festival will be hosting a screening of Emilia Pérez at the Globe Cinema downtown.
First look series.
As a non-profit organization CIFF has to find ways to raise funds throughout the year. The first look series is a way for patrons of the arts to see much anticipated films before their theatrical releases. It is also a way to support the festival. In 2024 CIFF screened films like Hitman starring Hollywood’s newly chosen heartthrob Glen Powell, as well as Wicked Little Letters, and The Zone of Interest. Emilia Pérez is the latest film chosen for the first look series run by the festival.
About the film.
Emilia Pérez was written and directed by Jacques Audiard and follows cartel leader Manitas del Monte’s transition to become Emilia Pérez in order to live her authentic life. The film stars Karla Sofía Gascón as the title character, Selena Gomez as the mother of Pérez’s children, and Zoe Saldaña as the lawyer who helps Emilia escape. This Spanish-French is a two time winner at Cannes. The film is a drama that takes place in Mexico, and is currently France’s nomination for the academy awards and it also happens to be a musical!
