A warm, cozy and homemade chicken noodle soup that takes only 40 minutes to make with ingredients you may already have in your home. (Ali Beebe, CMRU.ca)
With the turning of the season, many of us start to crave for more comforting, warm and cozy meals. A fall classic is a nice, savoury soup.
Whether you are feeling a little bit sick and in need of some comfort, or just wanting to embrace the fall season, a good broth will be able to warm you from the inside out.
A classic chicken noodle soup can be made quick and easy with ingredients you may already have in your kitchen! If you find your ingredients are sparse, recipes are easily customizable to work with what you have.
Soup basics
An easy way to get started with your soup is to begin with vegetables, typically carrots, celery and onions, sauteed in some butter.
Once your vegetables have softened, you are ready to add in any spices you want! Oregano, rosemary and thyme are some great options for a savoury soup, but again, it’s all up to you!
From here, adding in a broth or stock (either from scratch or from a box), some meat and perhaps a type of noodle will yield a delicious and simple soup! A personal favourite of mine is chicken noodle soup, using egg noodles and seasoned with rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano, bay leaves and salt and pepper to taste.
