Alberta based charity ‘The Nick Project’ held its annual fundraising event on November 16th in Canmore Alberta.

The event featured games, live music, and a silent auction supporting life-altering youth initiatives.

The family-friendly gathering takes place every year in honor of Nick Arsenault, a friend loved by many who tragically passed away in 2021.

I spoke with Carolyn Abrahamsson, founder of the project, about how the project extends Nick’s legacy.

“He brought a lot of people together… he was amazing with all of his friends who had children, and their kids. So, I mean, it just felt natural when he died so suddenly that we do something to honor who he was because he was such a good person.”

The Nick Project was founded in 2022 to continue Nick’s legacy and build connections across communities by empowering and encouraging local youth to pursue their passions in music, sports, and outdoor activities.

“It’s about giving kids the opportunity to do the things that he loved. You know, he loved being outdoors. He loved snowboarding. He loved skateboarding. He loved music.”

The Nick Project believes in equal opportunities for all youth to thrive, therefore the project especially supports young people who might not have the financial means to access these experiences on their own.

I had the honor of attending “An Evening of Arsenault 2025” to capture the event. I watched as Nick’s community came together for a celebration of life and connection. After watching my impact report video, people will be able to understand where their donations are going, and just how much the organization relies on the help they receive from the community. I believe that it also allows the people working for The Nick Project to see just how far their reach extends.

When asked what success looks like for the charity, Abrahamsson had this to say;

“It looks like the way the kids look when they get to go and do, you know, a field trip and they would not be able to. So they’re excited and they’re happy…They get to learn with their elders outside because of The Nick Project, because of the money that we’ve donated to help the kids be able to have the proper clothing, to be able to go outside and enjoy the outdoor education program. It’s through these reactions and the happiness that we see from the kids.”
