Principles of Appropriate Use
The FCS values the principle of academic freedom and supports an open environment for the pursuit of scholarly inquiry. The contents of all unofficial web pages on FCS servers, however, must comply with Canada’s laws concerning privacy, copyright, defamation, hate propaganda, obscenity, and pornography. Web pages on FCS servers should also adhere to existing MRU policies such as, but not limited to, the Student Code of Conduct, the Human Rights Policy, and Offensive/Discriminatory Materials Policy. Additionally, all radio and television broadcast material should comply with ethical guidelines explicit in the Code of Ethics of the Radio and Television News Directors Association of Canada (RTNDA).
The FCS recognizes the legitimate right of students, faculty and staff to pursue and investigate often controversial topics as part of their course of studies or instruction. Indeed, such pursuit is viewed by the FCS as a necessary part of many courses within the faculty. However, content that contravenes Canada’s laws concerning privacy, copyright, defamation, hate propaganda, obscenity, and pornography, will not be tolerated.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Students, staff and faculty in the FCS may submit personal information, such as name, email and Student ID number, to the website administrator, in order to be granted access to edit or publish content to our sites. Such information is only used for the administration of web site access and will not be shared with any third party.
In certain areas, visitors may be requested to provide personal information. For example, you will be asked to fill in your name and email when you post comments. The FCS collects such information only to administer interactive areas of our web sites.
We will not sell, share, or rent your personal information to any third party or use your e-mail address for unsolicited mail.
We use IP addresses to analyze web traffic, trends, administer the site and gather broad demographic information to measure interest in various sections and improve design and navigation. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information. Only aggregated data, not individual data, will be used for this purpose. This information is not shared with third parties.
Comments to the articles and features of unofficial web sites are intended to elicit an exchange of opinion and open dialogue in a civilized and open manner for all readers to see.

Copyright and Intellectual Property
The entire contents of all unofficial web sites are Copyrighted as a collective work under the Canadian and other Copyright and intellectual laws. The content created by FCS students, staff or faculty, and posted on any unofficial web site, is the intellectual property of the author. This includes articles, audio and video productions, illustrations and photographs, portfolio pages and any web-based files or products created for FCS course curriculum or projects. Any redistribution, retransmission or publication of such material is prohibited without the express written consent of the Copyright owner. The FCS reserves the right to edit or remove any content in violation with this policy.
In the event that there is concern regarding compliance with this policy, the page(s) in question will be removed from the web site, while a committee comprised of faculty and staff, decides whether or not to permanently remove the page(s). The committee will adjudicate the matter within one week of removal during which time a notice will be placed on the site.
Linking & Contact Information
Unofficial web pages may not link to any illegal material. Any links to other sites should be operational, kept to a minimum, and must open outside the FCS web site. It is also advisable to get permission from the web master of the site you wish to link to. Every web page must include contact information for the person who manages the content. Students, staff and faculty may link to other related web sites, but the FCS is not responsible for the content and reserves the right to remove any page or link in violation of this policy.
Notification of changes
The FCS reserves the right to change these conditions from time to time. Your continued use of the site will signify your acceptance of any adjustment to these terms.
